'Brazilica Festival' in Liverpool City Centre
Brazilica is growing exponentially each summer and the world is going seemingly Brazil crazy, with the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics on the way over the next few years it all looks very exciting for Brazil, Brazillian culture and the people of Brazil!
The cultural offering in the week-long programme is a source of pride and it's hard not to genuinely admire the authenticity of each individual event. Whether it’s a screening of the Academy Award-winning 'Orpheus Negro' at the ‘bombed-out church’; 'Capoeira' demonstrations with the world-renowned 'Mestre Parente', the 'Frevo Drop' exhibition at 'Metquarter' or samba classes in the community, there’s something for everyone at this year’s festival.
The 'Carnival day' of this years Brazilica falls on Saturday, 20th July and headlining the stage is the amazing Rio-based Beatle Band, 'Sargento Pimenta' who visit Brazilica for the first time this year and will headline the Juice FM Williamson Square stage. Commanding an audience of up to 100,000 people in Brazil, Sargento Pimenta samba band have helped maintain the global legacy of our city’s greatest musical export The Beatles, in fact, Brazil boasts one of the World’s most avid Beatles fanbases. Sargento Pimenta perform Beatles classics in a fun samba style and are set to have Brazilica crowds singing and dancing along in no time!
You can see the excitement in people’s faces when a vivid carnival parade surges through Bold Street and Church Street; finishing at the Williamson Square Stage. The spectacle of carnival is truly a sight to behold and one of the best things about it is that it's free!
