Group friendly Liverpool
Liverpool City Region is becoming an increasing popular choice for the group travel market with attractions and hotels geared up to welcome large groups of visitors.
Liverpool was named the Best UK City in 2011 and 2012 by industry professionals at the Group Leisure Awards 2012, and Coach Friendly Town/City Of The Year 2012 at the Coach Tourism Awards, organised by trade magazine Coach Monthly – and with such a strong and diverse offer, it’s easy to see why. Liverpool Coach Welcome Scheme maximises the overall visitor experience for groups. This has been made possible through Partnership working between Tourist Board VisitLiverpool (Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership – LCR LEP), Liverpool City Council, Liverpool Cathedral, Albert Dock, and the Confederation of Passenger Transport.
Following the success of the Liverpool Coach Welcome Scheme, group travel organisers and coach operators are becoming increasingly keen to include the destination in their itineraries.
Liverpool has always been recognised for its contribution to sport and music, but culture is now also seen as a key selling point with venues attracting headline shows and exhibitions.
UNESCO World Heritage Status; stunning architecture; fascinating heritage; outstanding attractions; maritime history; award-winning shopping; electric nightlife – these all add to Liverpool’s character to make it a must-visit destination.
New hotels, bars and restaurants and exciting events all add to the strong appeal of this thriving destination, giving visitors something new to experience all-year round.
As well as the Beatles Story, ideal attractions for groups include Albert Dock, the Liverpool Cathedral, Museum of Liverpool, Liverpool ONE, Liverpool Football Club Tour and Museum, Mersey Ferries and The U-boat Story, Magical Mystery Tour, The Cavern Club, Speke Hall, Aintree Racecourse (home of the Crabbie's Grand National), St George’s Hall, and the picturesque village of Port Sunlight on the Wirral.
The free to use scheme was originally piloted in 2010 at Liverpool Cathedral – the largest cathedral in Britain and fifth largest in the world – and last year expanded to Albert Dock, the UK’s largest group of Grade I listed buildings. It enables group travel operators to provide a warm welcome for visitors and useful information for drivers, such as coach pick-up, drop-off and parking facilities.
