The Beatles Story and Liverpool Hope University Come Together!
The award-winning Beatles Story Liverpool has forged a unique academic partnership with Liverpool Hope University, following the University’s introduction of what is still the only Beatles-related Masters programme in the world: The Beatles, Popular Music & Society. This unique course continues to attract students from all over the globe, states Dr. Mike Brocken, director of the MA course at Liverpool Hope. Both Liverpool Hope University and The Beatles Story have worked together closely to develop this unique academic partnership.
"Academic institutions are often criticized for being in a cultural bubble all of their own,” says Dr. Brocken, “but at Liverpool Hope we understand how both BA and MA programmes can open up a world of gainful employment and job satisfaction to the graduate. Via our partnership with The Beatles Story we are now able to give the student experience and training in perhaps the most important workplace in Liverpool's recent history - that of the Heritage Tourism Industry".
In more recent years, The Beatles Story has been extending its reach into the realms of informal education via their award-winning interactive Discovery Zone. This unique creative program at The Beatles Story helps teachers to individually tailor their study of The Beatles, who have been long featured on the National Curriculum, providing windows into a wide range of diverse subjects such as History, Music, Art, ICT, and Literacy.
Now, via partnership with the Department of Music at Liverpool Hope University, the Beatles Story are also able to offer an exchange in lifelong learning: staff at The Beatles Story will join the MA programme at Post Graduate Certificate level, while The Beatles Story Education Department will host work-based learning places for undergraduates studying music and education at Liverpool Hope.
Shelley Ruck, Education Officer at The Beatles Story states:
"The Beatles Story will now offer a wide variety of chances for learning to take place, across all ages. It is wonderful that our staff will be given the opportunity to take part in such a dedicated academic programme, one that will be of direct benefit to them and their work in the popular music heritage industry. We are also looking forward to the input from work-based learning students and consider this a boon to the development of our education programme.”
There is no doubt that this link between academia and corporate enterprise will provide hugely significant insights into how Beatles-related tourism in Liverpool is developing. This partnership between The Beatles Story and Liverpool Hope University will not only help academic research surrounding the importance of the Beatles, but will place such studies into the real workplace of heritage and enterprise.
