The world's biggest Easter egg hunt comes to Liverpool
Liverpudlian actress Clare Sweeney today (Wednesday 27 February) helped to launch The Lindt Big Egg Hunt in Liverpool, which challenges families to find over 100 giant Easter eggs hidden across the city. People are challenged to find the eggs around the city whilst raising vital funds for leading children’s charity, Action for Children. The hunt will be in Liverpool for one week (until Tuesday 5 March) as part of the world’s biggest Easter egg hunt.
This is the first time the hunt has visited the city, and the hunt got cracking with the help of Sweeney and children from Action for Children’s Knowsley Junior Mentoring project. The project is just one of many Action for Children projects - which work with the most vulnerable children, young people and families - to benefit from funds being raised through the hunt.
The eggs have been designed by leading artists including Sam Taylor-Johnson, Annie Kevans and Billy Childish, while others feature some of the UK’s best loved children’s characters such as Moshi Monsters, Peppa Pig and SpongeBob SquarePants. This year, the iconic Lindt Gold Bunny will be joining the fun, giving hunters the chance to win one of 100 year’s worth of chocolate. Thousands of Lindt Gold Bunnies and Lindor truffles will also be handed out as part of the egg-stravaganza.
Vincent McEvoy, the artist who designed the ‘Beatles Bubble Gum’ egg for this year’s hunt also attended the official launch. Vincent studied at Liverpool Art College and first came to prominence with his award winning work at the Polydor record label for such artists as The Who and Eric Clapton.
Locals and tourists alike can bid for their favourite eggs in an online auction, or get interactive with the hunt by using their mobile phones to find out more about the eggs and their artists.
Action for Children’s Chief Executive, Dame Clare Tickell, said: “The Lindt Big Egg Hunt is a magical event for families, locals and tourists alike to enjoy the age-old Easter egg hunt tradition - on a huge scale and with a modern twist, as a giant exhibition of modern art. It’s an incredible way to bring people together in a spirit of fun and adventure while raising money for some of the most vulnerable children across the country.”
Annabelle Delorme, Marketing Director at Lindt added: “We are delighted to be supporting Action for Children with The Lindt Big Egg Hunt, a great way to raise money for this very worthy charity. Lindt believes in the magic of families which is why the iconic Lindt Gold Bunny will be hopping across the UK to help out busy hunters, offering up tasty treats and fantastic chocolate prizes. So hop down to your local event, have some fun and help support this fantastic cause.”
Donna Howitt, Marketing Director at Liverpool ONE said: “At Liverpool ONE we love to give our shoppers a unique experience so we’re thrilled to welcome The Lindt Big Egg Hunt. The eggs will be located throughout the shopping district and with some decorated like children’s favourite’s, including Moshi Monsters and Peppa Pig, there is something for the whole family to enjoy.”
Peter Cronin, Director of Development and Marketing, Albert Dock said: “We love to animate the dock and can’t wait to welcome the eggs. By day people will particularly enjoy the Sarah Kate Wilson and Hattie Stewart eggs but I think evening visitors will love looking for the glow in the dark egg! What’s more with a broad selection of restaurants and cafes there are plenty of places to go and relax after a hard day of egg hunting.”
The Lindt Big Egg Hunt started in London on 12 February before visiting Birmingham and then Liverpool. After Liverpool it will go on to Manchester and Glasgow before heading back to London in time for Easter.
The Lindt Big Egg Hunt is also supported by location sponsor Network Rail and official carrier FedEx. Network Rail has designed a special egg, and will be providing visitor information on The Lindt Big Egg Hunt at a major station in each host city. FedEx have provided a state of the art double-decker articulated lorry to transport the valuable eggs from city to city. They have also provided two of their most experienced drivers to make sure the eggs arrive at each location in pristine condition.
