Cilla Black: Paying tribute to legendary singer and TV star
The Beatles Story today pays tribute to legendary singer and TV star, Cilla Black.
Born Priscilla Maria Veronica White in Liverpool - the same hometown as the Fab Four - Black was supported heavily by The Beatles during the early stages of her career and found fame as a singer in 1964 with the singles 'Anyone Who Had a Heart' and 'You're My World'. She would go on to have a total of eleven Top 10 singles in the UK Charts before going on to become one Britain's biggest ever and most loved TV personalities.
Black became the endearment of hearts across the nation and shone in her role as a TV presenter in hit shows 'Surprise Surprise' and 'Blind Date'. As a long-term friend and colleague of The Beatles, Black visited the Beatles Story on several occasions, with the above picture taken during Cilla's visit to our exhibition in 1993. Photographs of Cilla performing at the original Cavern Club form part of our replica Cavern Club room here at the Beatles Story in Liverpool.
It is no surprise that tributes have poured in from celebrities across the nation, including Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. Rest in peace, Cilla.
