JULIAN & CYNTHIA LENNON UNVEIL EUROPEAN PEACE MONUMENT IN LIVERPOOL TO CELEBRATE LENNON'S 70TH BIRTHDAY

The city of Liverpool became the centre of the universe on Saturday 9th October as Julian & Cynthia Lennon proudly unveiled a European Peace Monument dedicated to the memory of John.

The unveiling of the eighteen-foot peace monument entitled Peace & Harmony celebrated what would have been Lennon's 70tth birthday drawing 2000 dignitaries and fans from all over Europe to the most important celebration of John's birthday in the world.

Commissioned by the Global Peace Initiative, an American arts organisation dedicated to creating peace monuments around the world to promote global peace, the European Peace Monument was created by American art prodigy Lauren Voiers. In its prominent position in Chavasse Park - a five acre green space at the heart of Liverpool city centre - the monument will now give hundreds of thousands of visitors to the city the opportunity to celebrate the life and spirit of Lennon and his message of peace.

Ms Voiers had been personally asked by John's son Julian to incorporate, within the monument's design, a white feather which to John Lennon's eldest is a symbol of both his father's spirit and of peace.

As Julian explains: "One of the things my father said to me was that should he pass away, if there was some way of letting me know he was going to be ok, it was by, in some shape or form, presenting me with a white feather."

Jerry Goldman, Managing Director, The Beatles Story comments:
"This monument is both a tribute to one man's dedication to global peace through his art and a focal point for those looking to consider the real concept of peace in the 21st century. That Julian and Cynthia conducted the unveiling is a proud moment for us all and an indication that this monument will in time take on a global significance of its own.

"I really feel that this has been a fitting tribute to one of the world's great artists and hope that people come to see the monument for what it is - a place to gather and consider the possibilities of global peace."

The European Peace Monument is the second peace monument to be gifted by the Global Peace Initiative. The first was gifted to the people of Asia in 2005, was accepted by the President of Singapore and has a permanent home in his country. There are plans for a third monument to be gifted to the people of South America as part of a pledge by the Global Peace Initiative to reach out to all continents with their message.
