International Beatleweek Festival 2016

International Beatleweek festival returns to Liverpool for its 30th year from 24th to 30th August, and this year brings a debut appearance from Monkees legend Micky Dolenz.

Festival goers can catch Micky Dolenz guest speaking at the annual Beatles Convention, performing at The Royal Court and closing the festival with his own special live show in the Cavern Club.

His band, The Monkees feature within The Beatles Story’s special exhibition at the Pier Head. ‘The British Invasion: How 1960s beat groups conquered America’ showcases previously unseen photographs and memorabilia, curated by the GRAMMYs Museum in L.A.

Making a welcomed and long-awaited return to International Beatleweek is artist, musician and producer Klaus Voormann. This year marks 50 years since the release of The Beatles’ Revolver album, the front cover of which Klaus famously designed.

To commemorate this anniversary Klaus has designed a Höfner Violin bass guitar which is inspired by his Revolver creation. Beatles fans will be able to see the exclusive guitar either on display at The Beatles Story or at the Annual Beatles Convention on Sunday 28th August. Find out more here.

Pattie Boyd also returns to the festival, this time with sister Jenny. The pair will be at The Beatles Story’s Fab4 Cafe, Pier Head to sign books and meet fans on 29th August, 10:30am – 12:30pm.

The photographer and former model this year opened a special UK exclusive exhibition at The Beatles Story showcasing intimate portraits of her time spent with George Harrison and Eric Clapton. Pattie has also added two of her iconic outfits to the exhibition, find out more here.

Tony Booth, original poster artist for The Beatles has a collection of early gig posters on display at the View Two Gallery on Mathew Street during International Beatleweek. Tony's artwork, such as the below poster which features within The Beatles Story's Main Exhibition, can be seen from 24th August until 21st September. Find out more here.

From Thursday 25th until Tuesday 30th August (excluding Sunday 28th), St. Peter's Church in Woolton will once again open its doors to the thousands of Beatles fans who flock to Liverpool for International Beatleweek.

Entry to the hall is free for those who wish to see the very place that Paul McCartney first auditioned to become a member of the Quarrymen. The church hall will be open from 11am until 4pm most days, and don't forget you can learn all about this defining day in history as part of The Beatles Story's Main Exhibition

Cavern director Bill Heckle says: "The line-up this year is incredibly special and one not to be missed. With a lot of 50th anniversaries to celebrate we’ve tried to give a nod to as many as we can with special shows and tributes.

"We are excited to welcome such a plethora of great guests who were and still are very much a part of the ‘Beatles scene and story’. Beatles festivals don’t get much bigger than this!"
