Beatles Story scoops top tourism award

Beatles Story scoops top tourism award

Liverpool’s Beatles Story attraction is celebrating today after being recognised as one of the best tourist destinations in the UK. The Albert Dock based company was named as the “Best Attraction in the North & Scotland” at the annual Worldwide Attraction awards, beating off strong competition from the likes of Chester Zoo and Edinburgh Castle. The Beatles Story came out on top after members of the public were encouraged to vote for their favourite, with more than 13,500 votes cast. This accolade puts them alongside other worldwide attraction winners such as The Empire State Building, The Tower of London and Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom. The award caps off an incredibly successful 2015 for the Beatles Story with the launch of its 25 international ambassador campaign as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations, as well as the “Imagine No Food Poverty” campaign to mark what would have been John Lennon's 75th birthday. This year also has seen exciting new Beatles memorabilia launched at the exhibition including John Lennon’s last piano, a new Bob Gruen photography exhibition and George Martin’s notes for the first recording of Help! Martin King of the Beatles Story, said: “What an honour to have bestowed upon us in our silver anniversary year, to be recognised as the North & Scotland’s leading tourist venue. Thanks go to all the team who continue to work tirelessly to make the Beatles Story a first rate attraction. This award is a reflection of the tremendous teamwork and effort that they have put in. “We, of course, also pay huge thanks to all who voted for us to win this award, as well as to all of our guests who have visited us over the years. Even after 25 years, we continue to go from strength to strength with brand new Beatles memorabilia consistently being introduced into the exhibition and increasing footfall from both domestic and international markets.” For more information about the awards, including a full list of winners, please visit www.attractiontix.co.uk/waawards/2015-winners/.

Get Back: The rare Harrison guitar returns

The rare Australian Maton MS-500 Mastersound electronic guitar, which recently sold at auction for almost half a million dollars (£312,000), has returned on loan to the Beatles Story.

It is thought that Harrison had borrowed the guitar from Barratt's music shop in Manchester while his legendary Gretsch Country Gentleman guitar was being repaired. It was played only a small number of times during ...self-willed and selfish women who surrounded John as he grew up.
