Happy New Year: it's getting better all the time

It has been a record-breaking and award-winning year for The Beatles Story visitor attraction in Liverpool, with many more improvements and fab things planned for visitors in 2018.

The Beatles Story celebrated plenty of 50th anniversaries during 2017, including that of the Magical Mystery Tour film, the release of 'Strawberry Fields Forever' as a single, and the release of the hugely iconic Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album.

The Beatles Story celebrated these with the introduction of new exhibits at the Albert Dock attraction, including a replica tour bus, the original gates to the Strawberry Fields children’s home, a set of four authentic Sgt. Pepper suits and alternative cover artwork.

2017 also saw The Beatles Story recognise the 50th anniversary since the untimely passing of Brian Epstein with the launch of an exhibit honouring the life and achievements of the Beatles’ manager, whose death was a pivotal moment in the band’s story.

Other new additions to the exhibition included a ticket from The Beatles’ final Cavern Club performance, the Holy Grail record that launched the band, a selection of Fan Club items, and a collection of negatives containing never-before-seen photographs of John Lennon, discovered following another successful ‘Memorabilia Day’ in October.

These have already proved to be a huge hit with visitors, with the Liverpool attraction breaking attendance records for the fourth year running. The exhibition welcomed over 300,000 visitors during its best-ever year in 2017, with the majority of visitors travelling to Liverpool from overseas.

A host of celebrity visitors also walked in the footsteps of the Fab Four at the Albert Dock during 2017, including Tito Jackson, Don Powell (Slade), members of The Libertines, American Footballers Jarvis Landry, Kirk Cousins and Kurt Warner, and Len Goodman (Dancing with the Stars).

In recognition of the attraction’s dedication to providing the best experience possible for its visitors, The Beatles Story was awarded with several accolades throughout the year, perhaps most notably ‘The People’s Choice Award’, voted for by the Liverpool public.

So, what’s to come in 2018? Well, after 9 years The Beatles Story bids a fond farewell to its Pier Head site, previously home to its special exhibition ‘The British Invasion: How 1960s beat groups conquered America’, co-curated by the GRAMMYs Museum in L.A.

Instead, the attraction will be opening a new special exhibition, based at its extended Albert Dock site, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ trip to Rishikesh, India in 1968.

Opening in February, ‘Beatles in India’ will look at this key and relatively secretive part of the Beatles’ story with never-before-seen memorabilia, imagery and personal accounts from the people who were with the band.

The Beatles Story team would like to thank everyone who visited during 2017, and we hope to see you again in 2018 for even more Beatles fun and celebrations. Happy New Year!
