Give Peace A Chance: 50th anniversary coin

The Royal Canadian Mint have officially unveiled a new silver collector coin to commemorate the 50th anniversary of John Lennon’s song ‘Give Peace A Chance’.

The international unveil took place on Liverpool’s world-famous UNESCO heritage waterfront, in front of the John Lennon Peace Monument, and was assisted by The Right Worshipful, The Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Peter Brennan.

The Beatles Story is the proud custodian of the John Lennon Peace Monument, which was launched in October 2010 to celebrate what would have been John Lennon's 70th birthday. The eighteen-foot sculpture entitled Peace & Harmony was created by Lauren Voiers, a 19-year-old American artist and commissioned by the Global Peace Initiative.

John and Yoko’s second ‘Bed-in For Peace’ occurred 50 years ago, in late May 1969 in Montreal, Canada at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel. It was here where John’s famous song ‘Give Peace A Chance’ was written and recorded. It was Lennon’s first solo song and went on to reach No.2 in the UK charts.

Montreal's ‘Bed-In For Peace’ held by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, forever etched in Canadian history, is now minted on an ever-lasting silver coin. Honouring the revolutionary song made in Canada and commemorating the most powerful anti-war anthem in history, the coin recalls the genesis of a song that echoed far and wide and still resonates today.

Minting is a world-famous event in Canadian history, the Royal Canadian Mint is recognized as one of the largest and most versatile mints in the world, offering a wide range of specialized, high quality coinage products and related services on an international scale. Truly a collector’s item, the new John Lennon collectible keepsake comes in a graphic beauty box, making this product truly special for Beatles fans. The coin is available to purchase now from The Beatles Story’s Fab4 Store.
