The Beatles Story welcomes G7 summit delegates as part of visit to Liverpool

As part of their visit to the city of Liverpool, the group of seven foreign ministers were given a private tour of the award-winning Beatles Story, before enjoying a locally-sourced meal and performance from a Beatles cover band in the replica Cavern Club.

The G7 foreign ministers were in Liverpool for a two-day meeting from Saturday and the city was chosen for it’s steep history and culture.

The summit featured discussions on issues facing the world between Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States held at various locations across Liverpool city centre.

Whilst walking through the exhibition, Japan’s Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi took the opportunity to play John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ on the piano in the White Room after a group photograph opportunity, before all delegates broke out into a spontaneous sing-a-long.

US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken is a huge Beatles fan and plays in a band himself, so he took the time to explore the exhibition, paying extra attention to the America area which showcases the band’s huge success in the US - from their appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show to the unforgettable concerts at Shea Stadium.

The Beatles Story General Manager Mary Chadwick said: ‘We were thrilled for The Beatles Story to be chosen as one of the main hosting venues in the G7 summit’s weekend programme in Liverpool, the birthplace of The Beatles.

The foreign ministers were given the opportunity to tour our award-winning attraction during which Mr Hayashi delighted the delegates with an impromptu performance of ‘Imagine’ on our replica John Lennon white piano. It was a special moment for everyone attending and we think John Lennon would have been very impressed by his piano playing’.

After the private tour, which stopped at key display items including George Harrison’s first guitar and John Lennon’s glasses, delegates were served a meal made with locally sourced ingredients by chef Paul Askew, followed by a performance Beatles cover band ‘The Cheatles’ in the Cavern Club.
