Two Of Us: Sporting couple visit The Beatles Story

Sporting couple Fran Halsall and Jon Wilkin visited The Beatles Story this week, after a hectic summer in the Swimming pool and on the Rugby field.

Halsall, from Southport was a member of Team GB for her third Olympics at this summer’s games in Rio, with the swimmer missing out on a Bronze medal in the 50 metre freestyle final by just 0.02 seconds.

Despite finishing fourth, the 26-year-old is regarded as one of the most successful British swimmers in the modern age, with a host of European, World and Commonwealth medals on her CV.

Wilkin is well-renowned in sporting circles, as the St. Helens Rugby League captain playing for his country 10 times and with his club for the last 14 years, winning a number of titles and Challenge Cups in the process.

There’s a healthy rivalry between the two and as the couple are both big music fans, they are taking time out from their busy sporting schedules, to walk in the footsteps of Starr, Harrison, Lennon and McCartney at the award-winning Albert Dock exhibit.

Diane Glover, Marketing Manager at The Beatles Story said; “We are delighted to welcome two local high-profile sports stars to our attraction.

“Both have great stories to tell and I’m sure they’ll enjoy exploring the story of how four young lads from Liverpool became the world’s greatest band.”

David Bowie: Paying tribute to a musical legend

The world was left stunned today as it lost one of its most loved and respected musicians following an 18 month battle against cancer. The influence that David Bowie had on popular culture cannot be overstated. His innovation and reinvention was one of the great driving forces of modern music, fashion, art and film.

Get Back: The rare Harrison guitar returns

The rare Australian Maton MS-500 Mastersound electronic guitar, which recently sold at auction for almost half a million dollars (£312,000), has returned on loan to the Beatles Story.

It is thought that Harrison had borrowed the guitar from Barratt's music shop in Manchester while his legendary Gretsch Country Gentleman guitar was being repaired. It was played only a small number of times during ...self-willed and selfish women who surrounded John as he grew up.
