My name is Raju Gusain. I live in Dehradun, a town in northern India. I am a professional journalist and have been doing research on the famous tour of the Beatles to the Indian Himalayas since 2003. My passion for obtaining more information about the subject has inspired me to establish contact with Beatles experts worldwide. In 2017, I had the honour of conducting a tour of The Beatles Story team to Rishikesh and the erstwhile spiritual camp of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi -where the Fab Four had stayed in 1968. It was a memorable outing and I shared my stories with The Beatles Story team, who were finalizing their exhibition to mark the 50 year of Beatles arrival in India.
I am conducting a heritage walk of the Chaurasi Kutiya, popularly known as Beatles Ashram, in Rishikesh for music lovers and Beatles fans on a regular basis. International media has hailed my effort and I have featured in Discovery channel’s abandoned mysteries, BBC’s ‘The Ganges with Sue Perkins’, ARTE’s Yoga in India: On the road with Esther Schweins, Canadian filmmaker Paul Saltzman's feature documentary Meeting the Beatles in India, Radio New Zealand and many other international publications and channels.
Praising my efforts, The New York Times states, “A local journalist who has become something of an expert on the band’s trip to India.” ARD German Radio adds, “Probably the man who knows the best about the Beatles stay in Rishikesh.” Recalling the 2017 Rishikesh tour, Diane Glover, Marketing Manager of the Beatles Story, writes in her blog, “Keen promoter for the attraction and who has written extensively about the site.”
The Uttarakhand Tourism Department and Uttarakhand Forest Department take my services for conducting tours of VIPs visiting the Chaurasi Kutiya. My study about the Beatles is India centric. I enjoy my candid relationship with the Beatles Story. I am truly happy and honoured being appointed the Beatles Story’s brand ambassador for India.
