The residents of Mexico City came together last weekend channelling their inner John, Paul, George and Ringo to set a new Guinness World Record for the most people dressed as the Fab Four in the same place at the same time.

A total of 294 Mexicans assembled in Chapultepec Park to beat the previous record of 250.

Costumes styles from every era of The Beatles were on display which included a variety of wigs, fake beards and moustaches.

Fans joined together to sing their favourite Beatles songs, took selfies and proved that Beatlemania lives on in Mexico, even though the band never played a concert there during their performing career.

“Four months ago Mexico City’s Secretary of Tourism called me to a meeting with the people of Guinness. He had the idea of trying to set a World Record of the biggest quantity of people dressed like The Beatles, I chose the uniforms Collarles 1963, Chesterfield AHDN 1964, Shea Nehru Jacket 1965, Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road.”

“After four months of meetings with event organisers and City representatives we issued an open invitation to the people of Mexico City.”

“We didn´t have much media exposure to announce it so we didn´t get as many people as we thought but it was enough to establish a Record, now it´s up to Guinness to confirm the fact, and I´m pretty sure that our idea will repricate all around the world and there will be more cities trying to break our record, spreading Beatlemania once again.”

There are currently more Beatles tribute bands in Mexico than any other country in the world and as a Beatles Fan Club president, Ricardo is responsible for organising many Beatles-themed concerts and festivals there. This year’s Gran Festival de Los Beatles for example will feature Pete Best, who will be arriving in Mexico on December 14 for a week full of Beatlemania.

If you too have Beatlemania then you must plan your visit to the Beatles Story in Liverpool. Tickets can be purchased online here.
