The Beatles Story pays tribute to George Harrison’s sister Louise Harrison, who sadly died in Florida aged 91.
The eldest sibling and only sister in the Harrison family, Louise was involved in the early days in promoting the band by petitioning radio and TV stations, making calls, sending letters and even advising Brian Epstein on how to break the band into the American market.
Although The Beatles eventually conquered America in 1964, George was the first band member to travel to the USA in September 1963 to visit his sister who was living in Benton, Illinois.
“I’d been to America before, being the experienced Beatle that I was. I went to New York and St Louis in 1963, to look around, and to the countryside in Illinois, where my sister was living at the time. I went to record stores. I bought Booker T and the MGs’ first album, Green Onions, and I bought some Bobby Bland, all kind of things.” (Anthology)
Louise released an autobiography in 2014, My Kid Brother's Band a.k.a. The Beatles, which tells the story of her early life in Liverpool with brother George.
The Beatles Story would like to pay its respects to the family and friends of Louise Harrison at this sad time.
